Local 2050 represents 54 firefighters, below the rank of Chief, as well as 4 civilian dispatchers and 2 fire department secretaries.

The town of Smithfield, located 11 miles NW of Providence, covers close to 27 square miles and is home to both residential and industrial communities, Bryant University, North Central Airport and is intersected by Interstate 295. Smithfield, as well as our neighboring communities, depend heavily on mutual aid support for major incidents.

The Smithfield Fire Department responded to more than 3,500 calls last year and is slated to respond to greater than 4,000 this year. The department provides a number of services including but not limited to, fire suppression, ALS medical response, fire prevention and education, hazardous materials response, and water rescue.
